Welcome
Journey Middle School is one of four middle schools in School District 62 and the only middle school located within the Town of Sooke. Serving approximately 600 students in Grades 6-8, Journey welcomes learners from Sooke, East Sooke, Shirley, Jordan River, Port Renfrew, and surrounding communities. We are honoured to live, learn, and work on the traditional territories of the T'Sou-ke and Pacheedaht Nations and value the strong relationships we have built with both Nations as we continue to deepen Indigenous learning, understanding, and connection throughout our school community.
At Journey, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every student feels connected, supported, and inspired to learn. Our school improvement efforts have focused on strengthening literacy, numeracy, student engagement, and a sense of belonging, with positive results that continue to enhance both academic achievement and school culture.
Students can choose from a variety of educational pathways, including the Standard English Program, French Immersion, and Late French Immersion. Our dedicated staff work together to provide meaningful learning experiences that challenge students, celebrate their strengths, and prepare them for future success.
Journey offers a rich variety of Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST) and exploratory opportunities that allow students to develop practical skills, creativity, and confidence through hands on learning. From technology and design to arts, foods, and various exploratory courses, students are encouraged to discover their passions and explore new interests.
Our music program is a source of pride within the school and community. Through Concert Band and other performance opportunities, students develop their musical talents while experiencing the joy of collaboration, creativity, and excellence.
Athletics play an important role in student life at Journey. In addition to our Hockey Academy, we are excited to offer a Soccer Academy this year that supports student athletes in developing their skills while maintaining academic success. Students can also participate in a wide range of extracurricular sports, including volleyball, basketball, rugby, badminton, soccer, cross-country, and track and field.
Leadership and student voice are central to who we are. Students have many opportunities to contribute to the school community through leadership programs, clubs, service projects, school events, and extracurricular activities that develop responsibility, teamwork, and school pride.
At Journey Middle School, our goal is to ensure that every student feels they belong, is challenged to grow, and has opportunities to discover their strengths. We are proud to be a school where students are engaged, connected, and excited to learn each day.
