Journey Middle School Soccer Academy
Dear Soccer Academy Families,
Welcome to the first year of the Journey Middle School Soccer Academy! We are thrilled to launch this exciting new program and look forward to a fantastic year of learning, development, teamwork, and fun both on and off the pitch.
As part of the Academy, students will participate in soccer training sessions three times each week. On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will meet at Fred Milne Turf at 8:30 a.m. We ask that families arrange transportation and drop students off directly at the turf whenever possible. At approximately 10:00 a.m., students will be transported back to Journey Middle School and will return to their regular classes for the remainder of the day.
On Fridays during Block 3, students will participate in their third weekly session. These sessions will be approximately 50 minutes in length and will focus on fitness, skill development, and small-sided games. Friday sessions will take place at Journey Middle School, either in the gymnasium or on the school field.
First Week Information:
During the first week of school (September 8-11), Academy students will meet in the Multipurpose Room during their scheduled Academy blocks. Our first on-field Academy session at Fred Milne Turf will take place on Monday, September 14th at 8:30 a.m.
Students should come prepared for every Academy session with appropriate soccer equipment, including:
- Shin pads
- Soccer socks
- Cleats
- Weather-appropriate athletic clothing
- Water bottle
Academy Gear
Samples of the Academy gear will be available during the first week of school for sizing purposes. We anticipate that the gear will be ready by the end of September.
Each Academy kit will include:
- 2 pairs of soccer socks
- 2 training shirts
- ¼ zip training top
- Drawstring soccer bag
- Soccer shorts
Once the kits arrive, students will be expected to wear their Academy gear to training sessions. Additional layers, rain gear, or warmer clothing may be worn when weather conditions require.
Community Partnerships
We are excited to work closely with EMCS Soccer, Sooke Soccer, and a number of experienced coaches from across southern Vancouver Island. We are especially pleased that Ketil Eckhart, from Sooke Soccer, will be one of our primary instructors and will be involved in many of our sessions throughout the year.
We are looking forward to an exciting year of skill development, personal growth, sportsmanship, and community building through soccer.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your support, and welcome to the Journey Middle School Soccer Academy!
Warm regards,
Shlomo Swan-Azmon
