Grade 6-8
At Journey Middle School, French Immersion students continue to develop strong skills in both French and English while engaging with the BC curriculum in meaningful and challenging ways. The majority of instruction is delivered in French, and students are provided with a variety of French language resources, including textbooks, literature, digital tools, videos, and learning materials.
As students progress through Grades 6-8, they are encouraged to strengthen their oral communication, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in both official languages. The French Immersion program provides a rich academic experience that challenges students while fostering confidence, cultural awareness, and bilingual proficiency.
The middle school years are an important step in preparing students for success in secondary school. French Immersion students are well positioned to continue their studies in high school and work toward earning a Double Dogwood Diploma, a distinction that recognizes graduation in both English and French. This achievement opens doors to future educational, career, and travel opportunities while providing students with the valuable lifelong benefit of bilingualism.
By the end of Grade 8, students are prepared to continue their French language learning journey with the skills, confidence, and foundation needed to thrive in a bilingual learning environment.
