Inclusive Education
At Journey Middle School, we believe that every student deserves to feel a sense of belonging, experience success, and have access to the supports they need to reach their full potential. Our Inclusive Education team works collaboratively with students, families, classroom teachers, support staff, and community partners to create learning environments that are responsive to individual strengths, needs, and goals.
We recognize that students learn in different ways and may require a variety of supports throughout their educational journey. Our Inclusive Education team helps coordinate services and supports for students with diverse learning, social-emotional, behavioural, physical, and medical needs, while also supporting students who require additional challenges and enrichment opportunities.
For students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), our case managers work closely with families, school staff, and district specialists to develop meaningful goals, accommodations, modifications, and support strategies. IEPs are reviewed regularly to ensure they reflect each student's current strengths, needs, and progress.
Supports available to students may include:
- Individualized learning plans and goal setting
- Classroom accommodations and adaptations
- Academic and literacy support
- Social-emotional and self-regulation support
- Behaviour support planning
- Transition planning between grades and schools
- Collaboration with district and community specialists
- Support for students with diverse learning and developmental needs
Our Educational Assistants (EAs) are valued members of our school community. Working under the direction of teachers and case managers, EAs help students access learning, build independence, develop self-advocacy skills, and participate fully in school life. Their support contributes to creating a safe, inclusive, and successful learning environment for all students. We are very lucky at Journey to have such a great team!
We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success. Families are important members of the educational team, and we value ongoing communication and collaboration as we work together to support each learner.
