Welcome Families! 2026-27 School Year Information
We are excited to welcome both new and returning families for the 2026-27 school year. Our dedicated staff looks forward to supporting your child and helping make this a positive and successful year.
Please take a moment to review the information below, as there are some changes from last year and items that require your immediate attention. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office staff or Principal and Vice Principal team.
To help students transition smoothly into middle school, we will once again implement a staggered start during the first two days of school. This approach allows each grade to settle in gradually and has been very successful in supporting a positive start to the year. Staff will be outside to welcome students and direct them to their designated division line-up. Class assignments will not be available before the first day of school.
The staggered start schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, Sept. 8th - Gr 6 students only: 8:50-11:40 (buses run in both directions).
- Wednesday, Sept. 9th - Gr 7 students only: 8:50-11:40 (buses run in morning only, so please arrange for your child to get home).
- Wednesday, Sept. 9th - Gr 8 students only: 12:15-2:50 (buses run to go home, but not to get to school).
- Thursday, Sept. 10th - all students attend, first full day.
- Friday, Sept. 11th – all students attend; Welcome Back BBQ

School Communication
Most school communication is sent by email, typically once per week, so please ensure we have your current email address and that you are receiving our messages. Within the first two weeks of the school year we will be emailing home Student Verification forms. Please watch for this and update us with any changes to spencermiddleschool@sd62.bc.ca.
During the first week of school we will be sending each student home with a 2-sided Emergency Release form. Please fill this out and return to the office by Friday, September 18th.
Student Attendance
With nearly 800 students attending Spencer Middle School, we ask families to report student absences by email rather than by phone. Please email spencermiddleschool@sd62.bc.ca and cc your child's teacher to ensure attendance information is received and processed efficiently. Attendance changes cannot be made after the school day has ended. If you would like to review your child's attendance record, you can do so at any time through the MyEd BC Parent Portal.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us manage attendance as efficiently as possible.
