Dear Spencer Families,

Over the past five weeks, our Grade 6 students at Spencer Middle School have participated in a powerful anti-racism learning experience led by guest speaker Aoy Broome. Throughout the sessions, students explored topics such as microaggressions, empathy, and the impact racism can have on individuals and communities. These conversations challenged students to think deeply about how their words and actions affect others.

Yesterday marked the final session, and I had the privilege of reading many of the students' reflections. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated meaningful learning and personal growth. One student shared, “I learned that even a small word can hurt you on the inside.” Another reflected, “It is not okay to be rude to people who are different from you because everybody matters. Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

I am incredibly proud of the openness, maturity, and compassion our students demonstrated throughout this learning journey. Experiences like these help build a school community where everyone feels respected, valued, and a sense of belonging.

• China Trip - Spring Break 2028. Spencer Middle School is excited to offer a unique educational travel opportunity to visit China during Spring Break 2028. All current grade 6, 7 and 8 Spencer students are eligible to enrol provided they have a recommendation from their teacher/principal. Students who will be at Belmont next year are still able to enrol for the tour and take part in fundraising opportunities.
