Hello Savory Families,

Free Family Food Market – tomorrow at 2:30pm (bring your own bags please).

Halloween Dance – Thank-you to our amazing PAC Executive and volunteers who planned and facilitated the dance last Thursday. The kiddos really had fun! It was great to see so many costumes.

Halloween @ Savory (Oct. 30)

Halloween can be a fun and exciting time for many of our students. To ensure that celebrations at school are safe and enjoyable for everyone, we kindly ask for your support in helping children follow the district’s guidelines for costumes on Friday, October 30, and any other Halloween school events/PAC events.

While the District does not have an official Halloween policy, we ask all families to follow these guidelines to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment:

·         Students must always be identifiable and visible.

·         Masks are not permitted. Face makeup is allowed if the student remains easily recognizable.

·         Scary clown costumes are not permitted.

·         Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not appropriate.

·         Fake weapons of any kind are not allowed.

·         Costumes should be appropriate for the school environment and must not include provocative elements or questionable props.

·         Costumes must allow students to move safely through the school and outdoor spaces.

Please keep in mind that even well-intended costumes can sometimes cause others to feel scared, upset, or excluded. Two guiding questions may help when choosing a costume:

·         Does the costume depict or perpetuate a stereotype or stigma associated with a particular race, culture, religion, or gender?

·         Could the costume be considered offensive to a particular race, ethnicity, religion, or gender?

We encourage students to choose costumes that are creative, fun, and celebrate imagination while ensuring that everyone feels safe and respected. Thank you for helping us make this Halloween a positive and inclusive experience for all students.

Haunted House – Oct. 26 & 27 (5-7pm)

This is the second year for the Savory Haunted House.  Mr. Vargas will transform our gymnasium for 2 evenings at Haunted House.  The Haunted House will be open from 5-7pm. Entry is by donation, and all funds go towards the Gr. 5 year-end field trip. The Haunted House is open to the public. Children must be accompanied by parents/family members.

Let’s Get Visible Day – Friday, Nov. 6

We will be joining schools across Greater Victoria on Friday, November 6, to celebrate Let’s Get Visible Day! Students are encouraged to wear their brightest, most colourful, sparkly, reflective, or light-up outdoor clothing! As the mornings get darker, this fun day reminds us of the importance of being visible and staying safe while walking, biking, or travelling to school. Please note: Any light-up clothing must be turned off while students are inside the school. If your child plans to wear light-up clothing, please remind them of this ahead of time. We look forward to seeing everyone shine bright!

Pacific Opera – October 23

Join Pacific Opera Teaching Artists Geoff and Anna at the Baumann Centre for an imaginative adventure into the art of operatic stage directing for this season’s first presentation of Living Opera on October 23rd.

Using live opera excerpts, participants of all ages are invited to listen, imagine, and explore what it means to bring a story to life on stage. Working together, you will make creative choices and develop stage directions inspired by the music, combining elements of music, drama, and leadership along the way.

Share your ideas, discover what others imagine, and watch as a professional opera singer brings your creative choices to life before your very eyes!

Pacific Opera Victoria’s public presentation of Living Opera is FREE for educators and families. Teachers and parents can register for free here: Living Opera Tickets, Friday, October 23  •  10:30 AM - 11:30 AM | Eventbrite
